What book do I need to find tax breaks for Salon?

I just opened a salon and my fiance wants me to find a book that tells me some tax laws or breaks I can use for the income taxes that will be due next april. So, it there something that can help me out or did he just pull this idea out of thin air? I live in PennsylvaniaWhat book do I need to find tax breaks for Salon?
Books on Federal and Pennsylvania tax law would be a start, but unless your boyfriend is a CPA you're better off hiring a tax accountant. Get in touch with one now (or soon) to get some advice on the things you should be doing throughout the year, then hand it all over to her next spring. What book do I need to find tax breaks for Salon?
Pretty much if it is ordinary and necessary for business, it is deductible.

For example - shampoo is ordinary and necessary. An industrial saw is not - at least not for a salon owner (who is not building the salon).

IRS has a lot of publications you can read for free, start with pub 334 and pub 17. They can be found on www.irs.gov

And I agree that you need a tax professional to help you, at least your first year. If you hire a CPA - make sure it is one that knows taxes - many CPAs do not. EAs are the only federally licensed tax professional that is required to have education in tax on a yearly basis. And finding one that knows about your business is always helpful.

There are tons of books out there but I didn't find them very helpful other than for general, straight forward tax information.

I suggest you find a good tax accountant; specially someoen with salon industry expereince. Asking other salon owners for referal is one way to look for such a tax accountant.

TIP: Ideally, look for an immigrant tax accountant; they are generally better at finding loop holes. :-)
